on the boot device.  It could be a power issue. Make sure you are<br>
using a minimum 5V, 2.5A power supply or that your external usb cdrom<br>
uses it's own power supply.  Or, it could be that the USB cable<br>
connecting the external drive to the Max is faulty.<br>

Do you have a small USB thumb drive you can use to install using the<br>
Debian netinst image?  This method always works for me.<br>
