Gerard,
For windows 7 ,windows 8.1 and windows 10:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn781278(v=vs.85).aspx
some additional info about Microsoft support of windows 10 for minnowboard max:

HDMI audio is working in a number of linux distros. Please make sure that you are actually using a HDMI display that supports audio…

Hi Berth-Olaf
Thanks for your response.
Can you tell me if you have actually got HDMI audio working (eg: when playing back a video with an embedded audio track) on a minnowBoard MAX running Linux?
I have tried various firmware settings and can't seem to get it working.
If I know it is supposed to work I can start digging a lot deeper as at this stage I sort of concluded that it simply doesn't work (maybe not implemented in hardware?).
Does anyone know if it works on minnowBoard MAX running Windows? If yes that would of course also imply that it is a software problem as opposed to a hardware issue.
Thanks
Gerard

Hi,
The audio has to be enabled for HDMI by the firmware. There may be reasons why it isn’t enabled. You have 3 possible audio connections, LP audio, HD audio and HDMI audio. Regarding LP and HD audio, they share some logic and can thus not be used simultaneously. You have to choose. There could be some constraint for HDMI audio as well. You need to check with documentation. Also check the schematics and see if audio is routed to HDMI. If it is, you probably can do some settings in the firmware that makes it work.

We can’t seem to get HDMI audio to work on our minnowBoard MAX under (yocto built) linux.
For example if one plays back things like a youtube video that has audio in a Chromium browser, there is no audio on a connected HDMI device that has speakers, etc.
Any ideas on what could be the problem or whether or not this is not supposed to work for some reason or other!?
Thanks!
