Somewhat related to this, is there any 'official' way to get newer firmware
builds, with the understanding that they won't have been through QA and
will likely require use of an SPI programmer etc.? I noticed some tickets
in bugzilla have 'test' images which have higher version numbers.

Or would we need to wait for the public firmware source repository?
