There is actually another way to do this.

You could make a lure that looks like a SATA drive but is actually a 
large amount of static or dynamic ram and set it as the swap space.
If you make it static ram, you could battery back this up for more 
reliability.

The SD card could then be just standard file store.

I did something like this in the old days....
