Joe,
the original article posted on linuxgizmos quoted a dual-core with 2gb
for $129, however that was reported incorrectly. the $129MSRP was
intended for a dual-core with 1gb of ram. unfortunately, it never got
corrected in the article and other news agencies replicated the
incorrect information. after feedback from early adopters and
distributors, it was determined that the dual-core with 2gb would be a
higher demand item, so the first production boards are all dual core
with 2gb of ram with a MSRP of $139. we will have options for you to
purchase the dual-core with 1gb for $129 available from several
distributors, as well several variations of the dual-core speeds, and
options for the quad-core. our biggest question continues to be if we
should introduce the quad-core with 2gb first, and then later a 4gb
version, or the other way around.
the distributors are given a "Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price" for
the products, however, as noted in the phase it is a "suggestion", so a
distributor can make their own decisions on what price to sell at. we
expect to see several distributors to retail the boards AT or BELOW the
MSRP...
