Hi Tim, all,
1. a strong +1 for a meeting in Vienna from my side, as I also (kind of) proposed it.
1. While I love discussing things in the open, I really appreciated the “closed group” discussion. Do you see a chance for both and turn the “or” of question 2) into an “and”?
Strongly agree that 1h will be to short to come to any substantial discussion/conclusion as we were rushing quite through the topics last time. I am really looking forward to such an inspiring round table again.
@Bird, Tim<mailto:Tim.Bird at sony.com> could it be that elinux-discuss at lists.elinux.org<mailto:elinux-discuss at lists.elinux.org> is not set active yet? I am subscribed, and I set my settings to get monthly reminder on my subscription, but I never received a mail and also not received it now as you CCed it. Also SPAM is checked and empty.
Best regards,
Philipp

Subject: Re: Embedded Linux Leadership Summit (ELLS) followup
Sorry for the delayed reply. +1 to Walt's comments, Vienna would be great, and the format really depends on what the objectives of the meeting are. However, as Yoshi mentioned, we had to skip quite a few slides last time so a one-hour slot would not be enough if this were to be a BoF.

Indeed. Thanks Megan and Phillip for following up on this. I'll intersperse
some status and proposals below.

Well, I got the e-mail list all prepared, and I believe a number of people subscribed,
but then I failed to follow up with e-mails to the list. This message is
CCed to the list (elinux-discuss at lists.elinux.org<mailto:elinux-discuss at lists.elinux.org>).
In order to avoid spamming people, and open up the conversations to other interested parties,
I will start dropping individual addresses in future messages in this (and other) threads.

No problem. I should have been on top of it.

I'm willing to set up an Embedded Linux Leadership Summit (ELLS) in Vienna.
I can probably get a meeting room there. I may have a little bit of money still at my disposal
from the remnants of the CE Linux Project. Or, if someone has a sponsor room that they
can spare for a 1-hour (or so) meeting, we could use that.
Or, some other ideas are to open this up as a BOF at either ELC or LPC in Vienna
(instead of a private meeting like we had in Prague).
I discussed ELLS at an embedded BOF last year in Plumbers, and a few kernel
community members gave feedback that they thought it should be more open.
I'm still working on an embedded micro-conference at LPC. That, however, is focused
specifically on boot time. The LPC BOF slots have not opened for proposals yet (I think),
and we have not done the program review for ELC BOFs yet (so I might be able to slip
one in.)
I think it would be good to follow up. Maybe if I had been communicating with this
group more regularly, we could have avoided the unfortunate collision of ELC Europe with
Embedded Recipes this year.
In any event, please let me know (by replying to this email):
1) if you think it would be good to try to meet in Vienna in September, and
Yes
2) whether you think this should be a private, invitation-only meeting again,
or a more public BOF-style meeting.
Either way is fine. Depends on what we want to get out of it.
Thanks,
-- Tim
