[MinnowBoard] Micro-SD card performance

The DDR50 capability of SD host controller is disabled currently, which limits the speed of SD bus from host side. Please check bug https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6578 for detail.

You could try re-enable it by switch on BIOS setup option "Device Manager -> System Setup -> South Cluster Configuration -> Lpss and Scc Configuration -> DDR50 DDR50 Capability Support for SDCard".

We will also re-investigate this issue on new stepping SoC from our side.

Thanks,
David | SSG BIOS

You're right, Micro-SD performance not only feels slow, it is incredibly slow in reality. I benchmarked it with a speedy Sandisk Extreme Pro (95MB/s read and up to 90MB/s write speed) and all it got was a measly 23MB/s - 21MB/s. Even my old 2012 laptop managed to pull 84MB/s - 72MB/s. I double checked with another OS and got similar results.

Is the driver not running at full speed? I don't know, but these results certainly suck.

I have an intel centrino adapter (622amhmw - n-6200) lying around. I am
going to power it up on probably Fedora or Cent7 and see how well that
works. I would like to test the setup as a small IDS, with the sensing port
being wired and mgmt over wifi (or usb dongle if needed) and a 250gb
msata. Should run well enough for light traffic.

Hi,

Is the Linux SDIO driver running at full speed? The board seems a bit
slower at starting from a uSD than I would expect. I have not
benchmarked it though.

Regards,
Simon
